The Cooperative

Welcome to Escola Lys, Catalan Limited Cooperative Society.

Escola Lys is an educational center located in the Sant Gervasi de Cassoles neighborhood in Barcelona, with over fifty years of experience. It has a pluralistic, non-partisan orientation and is non-profit. It offers personalized and non-competitive teaching that remains open to everyone and is fully transparent with families.

After about twenty years of operation, in the 1978-79 school year, ownership was taken over by the families themselves, who formed a Limited Cooperative Society with the aim of ensuring the continuity of the school and facilitating its operation. Since then, it has evolved and consolidated as an alternative for the education of children in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary stages within the framework of subsidized compulsory education.

The collaboration of everyone is essential, considering that the day-to-day operation of Escola Lys is made by all of us: parents, children, teachers, and non-teaching staff. Therefore, it is in our hands to ensure the continuous improvement of the school and to approach the future with the best perspectives for all.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the governing and representative body of the Society and has the authority to establish general guidelines for action, subject to the policies set by the General Assembly.

The president is assigned, on behalf of the Board of Directors, the unitary representation of the Cooperative Society and the presidency of its bodies.

It meets periodically, at least every two months, depending on the development of the center’s activities and the needs that arise throughout the school year.

The Board of Directors is composed of a minimum of 12 members and a maximum of 15, all elected from the cooperative members through voting by the General Assembly. The positions, which will have a duration of two years, are: president, vice president, secretary (optional vice secretary), treasurer (optional vice treasurer), and board members.

Its distribution will be determined by the Board of Directors.

School Board

The School Board of Escola Lys is the decision-making body in which the various sectors of the educational community are represented: the management team, the ownership of the cooperative, the teachers, the parents, and the non-teaching staff.

It meets periodically, approximately every two months, depending on the development of the center’s activities and the needs that arise throughout the school year.

Some examples of these committees are:

  • Learning Together
  • Gender
  • Green Playground
  • Improvement of spaces
  • Communication / ICT
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Midday Space
  • Subsidies
